about umbrella + bag
Why the name umbrella + bag?
The story begins almost 20 years ago when I was a college sophomore and took a part-time nanny job. I enjoyed working with kids and thought it would be a fun, easy job. However, it quickly became clear that being a nanny was more challenging than I expected, especially after an incident where the kids covered my face with peanut butter.
Despite my dislike for peanut butter, I was immediately hooked on being a nanny, as I found the job rewarding and ended up making it a career. This led to me continuing my education and seeking ways to get involved in public policy work advocating for both early childhood education, at the state and federal levels, and domestic worker rights.
People often compare me to Mary Poppins, but while I do lack the ability to fly via umbrella, I do like to think I have some magical abilities of my own. Those are helping parents find solutions that work for their families, and offering parents what I call a “bag full of tricks” from my experience working with children and families.
My continued interest in working with families and their children, while integrating concepts of psychology, education, and child development into the work I do, is what created umbrella + bag. At umbrella + bag, my main goal is to assist families with managing and understanding challenging behaviors in children.
